SMT marking off to a flyer
Laser marking specialist Laser Lines has successfully achieved an application request to mark product information on individual Surface Mount Technology chip resistors. SMTs are precision thin-film resistors which are fabricated by layering a thin Nichrome film over an alumina substrate: here, the customer’s requirement was to carry out the marking without damaging the under-lying Nichrome resistor film.
The application was achieved using the Synrad Firestar v40 coupled to the new FH Flyer marking head. The ten-character engraved mark on an SMT chip resistor was created using three passes with 25W power at a speed of 50ins/sec. in a cycle time of 100msec per chip.
