Stäubli has introduced a new connector to their RBE range of quick release couplings, designed for handling by remote control manipulators.
Stäubli RBE connectors are designed for applications where quick and secure connection of any fluid or gas is required. Their modular construction based on 5 coupling sizes, 3 materials and 7 seal types, makes them suitable for a broad range of applications. Connection is quick and easy, with automatic locking; disconnection requires depression of the release button mechanism. But where connections are being performed remotely by manipulators, either in confinement cells or glove boxes, managing connections can be more difficult.
In response to this need, Stäubli has introduced the new RBE TM version. The RBE TM has been specifically designed for remote handling. It has a square body and ribbed faces for better pincer gripping, a raised push button for easy disconnection. The long pre-guiding of the plug into the socket results in an easy connection in any position. Again the modular design allows several configurations. Either the plug or socket can be fixed; the plug can be fitted to either a sealed bulkhead or on a weld nut; shut off can be single or double or totally unvalved and a range of seals are available to suit the gas or fluid involved. The coupling is available in three sizes - 6mm, 8mm and 11mm nominal diameter and is suitable for pressures up to 350 bar. Stäubli product specialists are available to provide advice on the precise configuration of the RBE TM to meet any specific application. Typical applications in the nuclear industry are for waste treatment, decommissioning or any application where remote connection is required. Stäubli is an international family owned group founded over 100 years ago in Switzerland employing 3500 world-wide. The Couplings Division manufacturing facilities are headquartered in France with additional manufacturing in Italy and Germany. Offices are located across Europe, North and South America and the Far East; the UK base is in Telford.
