High operating speeds and excellent co-ordination of mechanical systems, sensors and control software enables SmartSort modules to achieve performance levels that were previously unattainable using this type of technology. Safe handling of extreme loads
A wide range of types and composition of articles can be handled with few functional or throughput rate problems. The high-precision sensor mechanisms can identify and route articles with heights of down to 20mm. Even polyethylene bag packs can be transported reliably without being damaged. SmartSort performs perfectly even with very small, low-weight articles.
Quick, risk-free integration
SmartSort modules including queuing belts are supplied as self-contained functional units. All drives and communication circuits, including control, monitoring and safety functions are installed in their own control cabinet with PLC and integrated via a bus system. Each module can be integrated into any conveyor control system simply by a plug-in connection with a defined interface.
High modularity
Nowadays it is essential for conveyor systems to be capable of rapid adaptation to different articles and situations. There are strategic benefits in a ‘living’ system that can be quickly and inexpensively converted, adapted or extended. When the pattern of line operations is changed, SmartSort can be moved to a completely new position in a conveyor system and takes its functional intelligence with it. If throughput is increased, it is no problem to install modular extensions simply by adding more SmartSorts. These remain programmable and are an ideal way to prepare for changes that are bound to come in the future.
Pre-tested functions
The full range of SmartSort module’s functions, at the specified throughput rates and operating conditions are tested by us prior to delivery. At the customer’s request, these tests can be performed with the actual articles to be handled. This greatly reduces commissioning risks and cuts the high costs incurred with conventional procedures, especially those of highly paid software and commissioning engineers during the live start-up phase of a new installation.
Convincing economy of operation
Standard software that has been steadily modified over a period of years guarantees high performance levels and optimal functioning. Available for only the price of a licence, SmartSort’s decentralized PLC design integrates with sensors and mechanical functions to form a tried and tested subsystem. It would be many times more expensive to develop special individual software as part of the control system for the whole installation. Normally it is difficult to predict the cost of commissioning installations to bring them to maximum performance during start-up, not so, with SmartSort, which cuts costs and risks during the start-up phase.
