Toyota Material Handling says it has made the safest truck range in the world even safer with the launch of the Tonero engine-powered forklift. Combining Toyota’s System of Active Stability (SAS), Operator Presence Sensing and enhanced operator visibility, the Tonero brings new levels of safety without compromising on productivity.
The SAS safety system actively works with the driver to keep the truck stable and operating within safe parameters.
There have been no fatalities from lateral tip-overs in trucks protected by SAS, despite a combined operating time of over 400 million hours in the US and UK.
Martin Turner, Applications and Product Manager for counterbalance trucks at Toyota Material Handling UK, said: “SAS acts as extra eyes and ears for the operator, helping to mitigate the effects of driver error. Although this system remains unmatched on the market, Toyota refuses to stand still on the issue of truck safety. We carried out extensive research developing the Tonero and have responded to feedback from customers.”
The instrument panel and overhead guard have been redesigned to give the operator the clearest view when the forks are at ground level, lorry bed height and at maximum height. In addition the Tonero now has the widest mast channel on the market, significantly improving visibility for the operator.
For busy environments, customers can opt for an additional safety technology package. The Tonero Safety+ formula offers an advanced travel control system with a load weight indicator and speed limiter to ensure that drivers stay within site driving speeds.
