Ultra Magic specifies the MultiTest 2.5 motorised test system from Mecmesin
Hot air balloon manufacturer, Ultra Magic is making use of a MultiTest 2.5 motorised test system from Mecmesin to perform tensile strength tests on the material used to make up the balloon 'envelope'.
The tests, which involve fastening samples without pinching and damaging the structure of the fabric, are necessary to ensure the material used is strong enough and passes strict standards set out by the aeronautical industry.
The MultiTest 2.5 motorised test system (now superseded by the MultiTest 2.5-d) was supplied alongside an Advanced Force Gauge and a pair of large single-action vice grips.
Using samples 45mm wide and 120mm in length, the tensile test is undertaken at a speed of 50mm/min.
The same system is used by Ultra Magic to:
- measure the tensile strength of balloon cloth fabric subjected to an accelerated ageing process
- perform tear tests on balloon cloth fabric
- establish the maximum strength of seams and fasteners
